Seiko SKX009 - Sam Claflin - Adrift
Sam Claflin wears a Seiko SKX009 watch with 'Pepsi' bezel in the movie Adrift (2018).
The watch seems to be a Seiko SKX009, but it might also be a SKX175 which is almost identical, but the modelnumber for the American market. The reason it seems to be the SKX009 / SKX175 and not another similar Seiko model is the Pepsi (red and blue) bezel, date window, the triangle shape at the 12 o'clock position and the round indices.
The watch in the film is worn on a Seiko Jubilee bracelet.
The Seiko SKX009 features an automatic movement, unidirectional Red and Blue ion-plated bezel, and is 200m water-resistant. The watch normally comes with a black rubber strap or this metal Jubilee bracelet, but often the watch is put on a nylon strap as well.
The same model watch is worn in a very similar movie All Is Lost - both Adrift and All Is Lost are survival drama film about people lost at sea on a sailboat.
This Seiko diver's watch is a classic and is still produced. Get the SKX009 on Amazon.com, find a selection on eBay, or the SKX175 on Amazon.com.
In 2019 the newly released Seiko 5 Collection is based on the SKX007/SKX009 case design, but it doesn't have the screw in crown or lume dot at 12 o'clock on the bezel. With this new Seiko 5 collection, Seiko takes a new direction and seems to stop the production of the all-time classic SKX007 model. Many fans are highly disappointed in that especially because the Seiko 5 doesn't give the same water resistance, screw in crown but is more expensive than the SKX007. The Seiko 5 series DOES have a new (and according to Seiko better) movement. But it might be best to quickly buy the SKX009/SKX007/SKX175 while supplies last.
